"In a world of partisan faith and antecedence, my life and art have changed with the understanding that music and dance were a dialogue on civilization. The lost dance repertoires of Sadir, demonstrate inclusiveness & multi culturality  epitomizing harmony and bonding of humanity"

Gondhal

Reconstructed from Marathi roots of Sadir

Gondhal- a dance form that was in vogue until the 18th century was lost in practice. As part of her doctoral research Dr. Swarnamalya Ganesh researched and reconstructed the lost connections and the pedagogy of this Tanjavur Gondhal dance which was part of the Sadir margam for centuries. She has revived this on stage as part of her series From The Attic. She has been working with the Gondhala players of Tanjavur for this reconstruction and has unearthed many Gondhala sahityams from Manuscripts in the Saraswati Mahal Library, Tanjavur

"Swarnamalya is a unique artiste. Its not only because of her extraordinary creativity but because she is an artiste and a scholar, her interpretation of history through performance standout every time she puts on a costume and takes the stage. Her Sadir performances have often been windows to history and an era bygone. She re-imagines the past, creating spaces where specific kinds of dancing and singing existed, but understanding the past in tandem with the present is her style..."
